Holyoke, Massachusetts

The Holyoke Employment Partnership (Holyoke, Massachusetts) is a collaborative effort that provides workforce development services and places job applicants who are otherwise difficult to employ—ethnic minorities, non-skilled individuals, and persons leaving welfare. The Partnership includes a volunteer tutoring and mentoring program to help adults prepare for the workforce. The Churchill Neighborhood Partnership is a bimonthly meeting comprised of residents, business and religious leaders, and members of local government who serve as advisors to city officials on community needs. The Partnership helps to implement a visioning process for neighborhood quality of life issues and public services/infrastructure development. El Arco Iris (The Rainbow) Youth and Community Arts Center offers a multi-disciplinary after-school and summer arts program to enhance the development of young people. Boys and girls, ages nine through 19, and primarily low-income and Latino, actively participate in many aspects of the program, including its planning and design.
