Grand Rapids, Michigan
The City of Grand Rapid's Master Plan's Plan Grand Rapids process,
rooted in community consensus, led to the development of a plan that describes
a future of great neighborhoods, vital business districts, a strong economy,
balanced transportation, a city that enriches lives, a city in balance with
nature and partnerships. The City of Grand Rapids' Community-Oriented Government
(COG) effort, Dyer-Ives Neighborhood Initiative, and the Grand
Valley State University Neighborhood Indicators Project have worked collaboratively
to build the social infrastructure of the community, with the goal being to
maintain or improve the general quality of life in Grand Rapids. The Expanded
Learning Opportunities (ELO) Initiative focuses on youth in the City of
Grand Rapids and works with providers of youth services to ensure quality care,
age-appropriate curriculum and a safe environment for children. ELO supports
mentoring, tutoring, and before and after school programs for youth.
