Laurinburg, North Carolina
Scotland Mobile Health Care -"Scotty" - is a 40-foot bus,
equipped with a mammography suite, an exam room, hearing booth, laboratory
area and an education center. One half of Scotty's time is spent meeting people
where they are most comfortable - their neighborhoods, churches and parking
lots. Providence Place is a model neighborhood developed by the local
Habitat for Humanity affiliate. Providence Place, consisting of twenty-one
homes owned by first-time homeowners, is a community of people in like situations
- people emerging from substandard housing in depressed areas. The Youth
Center Task Force (YCTF) is a partnership of people, organizations, and
businesses committed to increasing opportunities for youth in the community
to have safe, structured, enriching activities. YCTF served the youth of Laurinburg
by serving thousands of youth through summer enrichment camps, expanded parks
and recreation programs and by implementing the community's first after school
programs for middle school youth.
