Thomasville, North Carolina
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Park, was developed in partnership
by citizens of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive neighborhood, the Thomasville
Police Department, and the City of Thomasville. Police officers and community
residents worked together to build a safe community park with a basketball court,
swings, picnic area and other recreational equipment. Thomasville 150 - A
Celebration for Everybody, a yearlong celebration consisted of 55 separate
events and activities to celebrate the city's sesquicentennial and to unite
and empower the entire community. Communities-in-Schools (CIS) brings
individuals from across the community into the schools to partner with children
exhibiting special needs. The CIS mission is "To champion the connection
of family and community resources with schools to help young people successftilly
learn, stay in school and prepare for life."
