Wilson, North Carolina
The Oliver Nestus Freeman Round House Museum provides insight into
contributions of African-American citizens of Wilson. A local non-profit and
community volunteers renovated the house, a former residential rental property
for returning GIs. Wilson's Redevelopment Program is undertaking aggressive
programs to acquire and clear blighted neighborhoods, and to construct new,
affordable homes. Seventy-eight (78) homes have been constructed and upon
completion of a five-year strategy, 116 new homes will be built. Citizens
For A Healthier Wilson is a collaborative community action group that
focuses its attention in three main areas: reducing adolescent pregnancies,
improving immunization rates for children ages 0-2, and increasing lead screening
exams for ages 1-2.
