South Sioux City, Nebraska
With the development of a sound economic program, the community has
accomplished several exciting goals including: identified target businesses,
industries and stakeholders; established a revolving loan fund; developed
an industrial park, and created a rural enterprise assistance program to help
persons start new businesses. South Sioux City has successftilly completed
numerous intergovernmental activities that have saved tax payers money
and improved services to the public, such as continuing the oldest joint meeting
of the property taxing bodies in the United States and participating in one
of the 10 oldest regional councils of government. The Youth Leadership
Council (YLC) enables the youth of the community to have a voice in what
happens in their community, development of leadership skills, the workings
of government and the importance of public service. Students interested in
holding an office are required to give a speak and interview with peers and
sponsor. Responsibilities include the meeting, activities, and identifying
the most important issues facing them.
