Safe Kids/Safe Streets
Project Updates

Spring Cluster Meeting
The National Civic League's Federal-Community Partnerships team convened
the Spring Cluster Meeting in Washington,
DC on April 2003. The Safe Kids/Safe Streets (SK/SS) Learning Community
reflected on past accomplishments, achievements leading towards sustainability,
and the future goals and next steps of ongoing work. Members of the learning
community also engaged in rich dialogues with representatives from the Department
of Health and Human Services, Maternal & Child Health Bureau, National
Funding Collaborative on Violence Prevention, Grantmakers for Children, Youth,
& Families, and the Center for the Study of Social Policy. Information
was shared on lessons learned in SK/SS and other national projects, as well
as priorities around systems reform and the intervention/prevention of child
maltreatment.

The goal of the Safe Kids/Safe Streets project in Huntsville is to provide
training and technical assistance to the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency
Prevention - Safe Kids/Safe Streets National Demonstration Project. A major
focus is to assist with restructuring and strengthening of local juvenile
and criminal justice systems, child welfare, family services, and other related
systems to implement or strengthen coordinated management of abuse and neglect
cases and to develop comprehensive, community wide, cross-agency strategies
to reduce child and adolescent abuse and neglect.
Community Services is very excited to announce that the Madison County Report
Card on Families and Children was released. You can see it at MC3online.org.
Also, the Huntsville Times devoted a front page article and most of page 11
to the Report Card.
